Joule Discovery Lab, innovative solutions for Eni’s business

A five-day bootcamp, six startups, Eni mentors and expert coaches to facilitate the activities: these were the main elements of the 2024 edition of the Joule Discovery Lab. The problem-solution fit programme dedicated to startups was held from 11 to 15 November in Venice and Bolgiano.

It was a full-immersion week to evaluate innovative technological solutions regarding the development of innovative materials for magnetic confinement fusion and new technologies for the removal of contaminants that can meet needs in the world of business and in Eni’s research and development activities.

During the Bootcamp days, each startup worked on their business idea together with Eni's R&D experts and mentors, together with Gellify and Seedble coaches and facilitators to validate the project.

Some of the most important parts were listening to and holding discussions with other startups to develop a joint test proposal and share it during Pitch Day, the final day.

During the days, ad hoc sessions were held with the aim of better understanding Eni's design challenges, so as to be able to develop a value proposition and meet real business needs.

Here are the six startups chosen to participate in the Joule Discovery Lab 2024:

• DND Biotech: developed an innovative bioremediation technology, capable of accelerating and optimising the degradation of contaminants in soils.
• ResourSEAs: deals with the integrated use of seawater to obtain fresh water, salt, minerals and energy, gaining value from every resource in the sea.
• SLY: has designed an innovative monitoring service to quickly detect fires and industrial gas leaks.
• K3RX: has developed new advanced materials for the space industry, suitable for new forms of energy.
• ADD-ASTRA: has designed polymeric, composite and graphene-based materials for 3D printing technologies.
• Snaptech: has studied sustainable synthesis processes to produce inorganic nanoparticles applicable to different sectors.
