Our ongoing commitment

Giving value to people and implementing an inclusive policy that protects everyone's health and safety is the concept of operational excellence we put into practice every day. To this end, we provide our customers with the solutions and products to play their part in the energy transition and are committed to protecting the environment and biodiversity.

Diversity is an essential and enriching element of our work. Our approach is integrated on all business levels, from Communications to Governance.

We promote uniqueness

Diversity is an essential and enriching element of our work. Our approach is integrated on all business levels, from Communications to Governance. We are committed to ensuring that our workplace is free from discrimination and characterised by fairness and equal opportunities. For this purpose, the Zero Tolerance corporate policy against discrimination and harassment was issued in December 2021.

Our contribution to women's empowerment

In 2022, the number of women in management positions at Eni increased by 1.2% compared to the previous year. This is the result of the strengthening of empowerment policies aimed on the one hand at attracting new female talent and on the other hand at supporting the development of professional diversification actions.

Our customers are the protagonists of transition

We guide our customers along the path of energy transition through a technology-based, conscious use of energy. In Europe, 10 million customers chose us through Plenitude in 2022. We support them with products and technology solutions tailored to their individual needs.

The sustainable journey towards decarbonization

Technology and the digitalisation of our products lead our customers towards a zero-emission future. Through a new company, Eni Sustainable Mobility, we contribute to designing the mobility of the future by offering car sharing, electric mobility and biofuel services.

Innovation for people's safety

We protect the safety of our workers using the best resources. Among the most recent innovations is the digital tool "Safety Pre-Sense" which uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to predict possible risks at operating sites and suggest corrective actions. We assess and manage work-related risks every day and use all our resources to ensure there are no accidents.

Protection and efficiency at the heart of environmental culture

We operate on a global scale in countries with different sensitivities on environmental issues by protecting the environment, promoting an efficient use of natural resources and safeguarding areas of particular interest for biodiversity. We are committed to an increasingly efficient use of resources, particularly water.

The preservation of fresh water

Thanks to our strategy for the conservation of water resources, we have succeeded in minimising fresh water abstraction by making processes more efficient and using rainwater, water from remediated aquifers or treated wastewater.

During the course of 2022, 10 Mm³ of water was purified and reused and 59% of the water used in our processes was re-injected for production or disposal.

An example of this commitment is the installation of a plant for producing demineralised water at our Livorno refinery. Together with the treatment and reuse of wastewater, the project has helped reduce the refinery’s impact on water stress in the area. To learn more about water management, download the report.

Our circular approach, from biofuels to plastics recycling

The circular economy is a key element in our transition process. It involves the reuse of assets and the recycling of materials. We have incorporated circularity principles into all our processes, applying them to both new and existing supply chains.

We produce biofuels by valorising waste and residue and we develop technologies for recycling polymers through circular chemistry. Our circular approach extends to the entire life cycle of our plants and involves the regeneration and reuse of components.

How we value biodiversity

Our priority is for business growth not to come at the expense of the communities and environments where we operate. We promote biodiversity conservation and to that end we have signed four major partnerships with international NGOs promoting biodiversity conservation (IUCN, Fauna and Flora International, Wildlife Conservation Society and Proteus).

In the wind farms operated by Plenitude Spain, for example, the management of the facilities is adapted to biodiversity. We have provided visual and acoustic signals to reduce the risk of collision for birds and bats as the blades move.
