The Green Data Center

Eni’s Green Data Center in Ferrera Erbognone, in the province of Pavia, inaugurated in 2013, is one of Europe’s largest of its kind. Designed with modularity and energy efficiency in mind, it provides the ideal environment for powerful yet efficient computing systems.

Environmentally mindful design

Its eco-friendly design is more conscious of environmental protection issues by ensuring lower energy consumption than traditional data centres. Hosted in the Green Data Center, HPC6 has a maximum power consumption of approximately 10 MW.

Freecooling and liquid cooling system

Partially powered by a 1MW solar plant, the Green Data Centre uses a natural “freecooling” system that draws on outside air to balance indoor and outdoor temperatures to optimise energy use. HPC6 combines this with an innovative liquid cooling system that dissipates 96% of the heat generated by the machine.

The system

HPC6 marks a major step forward in the Green Data Center’s supercomputing capability: from 70 to 606 peak Pflop/s, equal to 606 million billion mathematical operations per second.
