Investimenti sviluppo locale in America Centro-Meridionale
Siamo attivi negli Stati Uniti nella ricerca e nello sviluppo di tecnologie all'avanguardia, consapevoli della loro capacità di generare innovazione, in particolare nel settore energetico. Parallelamente guardiamo con interesse alle opportunità di crescita che offrono i Paesi dell'America Latina nei settori tradizionali e delle rinnovabili.
Gli Stati Uniti continuano a essere fonte di innovazione e trasformazione nel settore dell’energia. Oltre a essere protagonisti nel consumo e, da un decennio, anche nella produzione di idrocarburi, gli USA sono anche una fucina creativa e tecnologica in cui si generano idee in grado di cambiare i paradigmi energetici e regolatori grazie a centri di ricerca di eccellenza e a un mercato capace di sostenere l’innovazione. È quanto sta avvenendo, per esempio, nello sviluppo e nella diffusione delle energie rinnovabili e nella promozione di nuove tecnologie pulite, anche grazie ad una politica industriale e fiscale a supporto del settore. Una trasformazione che sarà sempre più rilevante anche a livello nazionale, anche in un’ottica di rilancio economico in cui la transizione energetica giocherà un importante ruolo nell’orientare le scelte di investimento.
In America Latina l’impegno di Eni si concentra nelle attività di esplorazione e sviluppo, in particolare nelle acque del Golfo del Messico e del Venezuela, e in quelle della raffinazione di prodotti tradizionali e di biocarburanti. La regione offre grandi opportunità di sviluppo sia nelle fonti tradizionali sia in quelle rinnovabili.
Prosegue la collaborazione con prestigiosi partner del settore della ricerca, con i quali abbiamo avviato la sperimentazione di numerose tecnologie a sostegno della transizione energetica, e promuoviamo la tutela delle foreste e la biodiversità del territorio.
Nelle Americhe siamo presenti nell’upstream, nel refining&marketing, nella chimica e nel trading, settori ai quali negli ultimi anni si sono aggiunti importanti accordi per espandere il nostro portafoglio di energie rinnovabili.
La regione per Eni rappresenta soprattutto un fondamentale hub di innovazione. Abbiamo infatti importanti partnership nel settore della ricerca e sviluppo, nel quale dal 2008 possiamo vantare un'alleanza strategica con il Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), per la sperimentazione e la brevettazione di tecnologie innovative come l’energia da fusione, le rinnovabili innovative e più efficienti, la cattura e il riuso della CO₂ e strumenti di asset integrity. A Boston Eni ha istituito anche una delle due sedi di Eni Next, la società di corporate venture capital che investe in startup ad alto potenziale per la creazione di tecnologie game-changer per la transizione energetica.
Nel settembre 2021 è stato annunciato da parte del Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) - società spin-out del MIT di cui Eni è il maggiore azionista – il completamento del primo test al mondo di fusione a confinamento magnetico, tecnologia mai sperimentata a livello industriale e che applica i principi tramite cui il Sole genera la propria energia. Sempre in ambito di ricerca e sviluppo, dal 2020 abbiamo avviato un’iniziativa con Boston Consulting Group e Google Cloud per la creazione di una piattaforma digitale aperta a tutti gli attori del settore energetico e dedicata alla sostenibilità, per la condivisione di best practice e conoscenze. Allo stesso tempo, Eni, tramite Plenitude, continua ad ampliare la propria gamma di progetti nelle rinnovabili in esercizio e in sviluppo negli Stati Uniti, con l’obiettivo di raggiungere 1GW di capacità entro il 2023. Il know-how tecnologico e industriale di Eni è stato riconosciuto anche con l’avvio nel febbraio 2023 di una partnership paritetica tra Eni Sustainable Mobility e PBF Energy per la costruzione della bioraffineria di St. Bernard in Louisiana, che sancisce l’entrata di Eni nel mercato dei biocarburanti statunitense. Nel dicembre 2021 Eni ha inaugurato il suo primo "Open Innovation Outpost" a San Francisco, allo scopo di presidiare gli ecosistemi di innovazione per intercettare l’emergere di tendenze che potrebbero avere un impatto significativo sul settore energetico. In Messico Eni ha un piano di attività a lungo termine: nel gennaio 2022, ha siglato con l’UNESCO un accordo per identificare iniziative volte a sostenere lo sviluppo dell’economia locale, a conservare e gestire in maniera sostenibile il patrimonio naturale e a garantire l’accesso ai servizi di base; nel settembre successivo ha firmato con lo stato di Tabasco un MoU per promuovere iniziative educative in diversi settori nelle aree interessate dai nostri progetti upstream.

Area 1: idrocarburi nel Golfo del Messico
Abbiamo acquisito quest’area situata nel Golfo del Messico nel 2015 e due anni dopo abbiamo completato la campagna di perforazione.
La piena produzione del campo Miztón, avviato nel 2019, inizierà nei primi mesi del 2021, con l’installazione di una FPSO che ci consentirà di raggiungere il plateau produttivo.
Dal 2008 collaboriamo con il Massachusetts Institute of Technology di Boston per numerosi progetti relativi alle energie rinnovabili, all’ambiente e alla sicurezza sul lavoro.
La maggior parte delle ricerche si concentrano sulle rinnovabili (in particolare sul solare), ma anche sulla fusione, sullo stoccaggio energetico e la modellazione dei giacimenti.
Per comprendere un presente sempre più complesso è necessario abbandonare le visioni univoche sulla realtà. Per questo offriamo una panoramica sui Paesi che tenga conto di una molteplicità di aspetti che si intrecciano tra loro: dalle riflessioni sulle vicende storiche alla politica energetica, dalla geoeconomia alla spinta verso la digitalizzazione.
È il terzo Paese dell’America Latina per estensione dopo Brasile e Argentina. Una panoramica sul Messico, oggi in piena stabilità macroeconomica, in corsa verso la transizione energetica e l'eliminazione della povertà.
