In Canada, the company founded by Enrico Mattei has an offshore exploration permit in an and five production permits. In 2008, Eni acquired full control of Canadian First Calgary Petroleum Ltd, a company engaged in the exploration and development of oil and gas in Algeria and Canada.

Eni is present in the country’s offshore exploration licence EL 317 (Eni’s interest 14.06%) and five production permits: with a 10% stake in Bjarni H-81, H-55 Gudrid, North Bjarni F-06 and Snorri J- 90, while in the Hopedale E-33 permit Eni has a 4.58% stake. In November 2008, Eni completed the acquisition of all the ordinary shares of the Canadian company First Calgary Petroleum Ltd., a company involved in the exploration and development of hydrocarbons in Algeria, which held a 75% stake in the Ledjement perimeter (Block 405b). The area includes several deposits with total resources of more than 1.3 billion barrels of oil equivalent, about half of which is natural gas.
