Special prizes are awarded to the most cutting-edge research developed by researchers in our own laboratories. The 2015 prizes recognised three projects: a system to stop blow-out at wells using underground remote-control vehicles; a treatment to make the transport and use of bitumen more sustainable; and a project for the production of natural rubber and other substances from a small shrub.
Here are details of the winning research projects:
- Dual ROV (remotely operated vehicle)-assisted top kill system for blow-out recovery in deepwater drilling
Authors: Paolo Ferrara, Alberto Maliardi, Giuseppe De Grandis, Roberto Finotello, Eliana De Marchi, Michele Filippini, Massimo Carazzato, Dennis Indrigo
- Industrial production of a new modified bitumen, environmentally friendly, storable and transportable at room temperature
Authors: Paolo Italia, Federico Orengo.
- A bio-refinery based on guayule (Parthenium Argentatum) as a new industrial source of renewable products
