Emergency management is fundamental when an industrial or natural event has occurred that creates a potentially hazardous situation for people, the environment or buildings and property, requiring exceptional and urgent intervention.
Prevention and preparedness are fundamental.
Eni’s effective and efficient emergency response procedure enables us to protect the “system” in its entirety, safeguarding both the overall value of the company and the fabric within which our operations take place. This conforms with the ‘PEAR philosophy’ we have adopted, based on the protection of people, the environment, assets and reputation. The main factor in emergency management is preparedness, in turn dependent on prevention, which entails the careful identification and analysis of risks. Should an emergency response be required, our complete and robust preparedness enables us to react without delay, immediately implementing our emergency plans. Trial runs are essential for testing our response capacity in terms of planning, resources, equipment and materials. On average, we conduct more than 5,000 such exercises each year on our industrial sites. They include complex simulations (third-tier exercises) – scenarios in which several business lines are involved, for instance. As well as our own people and resources, these exercises may also involve local authorities such as the prefecture, police, the coast guard and the fire brigade.

Eni is thereby required to:
Eni’s emergency-management procedures have been integrated with national civil protection planning to facilitate a prompt response on the part of the state authorities. At the same time, our work in this area has increased our awareness of the risks to which we are exposed, thereby mitigating the hazards and enhancing our capacity to protect Eni staff and property.
