Projects

  • Alternating School-Work project

The Alternating School-Work project is one of the initiatives introduced by Eni following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Italian Ministry of Education (MIUR) and Ministry of Labour and Social Policies (MLPS) to promote full integration between business and educational establishments. The programme aims to provide an overview of the current energy situation and help children in their career choices, allowing them to discover a range of professional roles at Eni from up close and encouraging them to develop the transferrable skills needed for successful entry into the world of work.

  • CallForGrowth

CallForGrowth is a Eni’s project dedicated to Italian start-ups, developed in partnership with growITup, the open innovation platform that helps large companies to forge new partnerships with fledgling business. Under the scheme, Italian start-ups can propose cutting-edge projects to digitalize specific areas linked to the health and safety of staff, digital solutions to increase the value provided by service stations and solutions to make the company’s manuals fully interactive and integrated with digital twins, the virtual 3D alter egos that provide support and backup for Eni’s operations.

  • First Level Apprenticeship

The First Level Apprenticeship project, another of the initiatives that aims to promote full integration between business and educational establishments, involves students carrying out work experience and training at Eni’s premises alongside their regular studies. This is achieved through on-the-job training, traditional classroom-based courses and e-learning. The students involved come predominantly from technical and vocational colleges and attend various Eni industrial sites, from the Gela, Venice and Sannazzaro refineries to the Oil Centres in Val d’Agri. They are supported by tutors from Eni, who work closely with their school teachers.

  • Green Data Centre

The Eni Green Data Centre, which came into operation in 2013, was developed with the aim of ensuring the highest level of reliability for all of the company’s IT requirements, and to achieve world-beating “green” energy efficiency results. The facility hosts all of the central processing systems, both for management systems and the processing of HPC simulations.

  • Ponticelle NOI - New Innovation Opportunities

The Ponticelle NOI – Nuove opportunità di innovazione (New Innovation Opportunities) project, which stems from close integration between Eni’s various companies and a constructive relationship with all stakeholders in the Ravenna region, is inspired by the principle of the circular economy – one that circulates resources without wasting them and indeed increases their value through sustainable and innovative action. It is a unique venture that combines the company’s many skills and in particular the commitment of Syndial, which owns the former industrial site in Ravenna and has been working to reclaim it the since the late 1990s.

  • Poseidon

Eni’s Poseidon Project transforms decommissioned gas extraction platforms, off the coast of the Romagna region in the Adriatic Sea, into centres for the study of marine fauna and flora and the protection of endangered species. With the creation of an authentic science park, the first of its kind in Europe, the project is helping to protect biodiversity.

  • Project Italy

In the area of renewables, Eni has launched the Progetto Italia, an industrial conversion project that foresees the creation of mainly photovoltaic plants at industrial sites reclaimed by Syndial that are available for use and of low interest for other activities. Many of these areas can be converted into green energy production facilities.

  • School Projects in Basilicata

Eni has confirmed its support for school and cultural projects in Basilicata, with initiatives aimed at meeting local needs in partnership with the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei, in line with agreements signed with the Basilicata Region.

  • UN Global Compact LEAD Board Programme

Eni was one of six companies in the world to join the pilot phase of the UN Global Compact LEAD Board Programme, a programme aimed at the boards of directors of companies in order to strengthen their awareness of sustainability.

Agreements

  • Agreement with Hera

Eni and Hera signed a partnership agreement with the aim of converting used vegetable oil into biofuel for Hera’s waste collection vehicles. The agreement revolves around household waste vegetable oil, such as that used for frying, collected by Hera in around 400 roadside containers and about 120 collection centres. It will be sent to the Eni bio-refinery in Porto Marghera, Venice, for the production of Green Diesel, a completely renewable product that accounts for 15% of Enidiesel+. This biofuel will power Hera’s urban waste collection vehicles. To further support of the initiative, Hera has decided to boost the roadside collection of vegetable oil by introducing 300 new dedicated containers in the areas in which it operates.

  • Deal between Eni and RenOils

Eni and RenOils, the Italian national vegetable and animal oils and fats Consortium established in 2016 to ensure the correct management of the collection, transport, storage, processing and reuse of vegetable oils and animal fats, on February 2019 signed a collaboration agreement to promote the recovery of used vegetable oils. Eni currently makes use of approximately 50% of the used cooking oil available in Italy and, will extend its capacity to produce high-quality biofuel from this waste in the company’s bio-refinery in Venice, at Porto Marghera, and in Gela. The letter of intent also includes information and environmental education campaigns to convey the benefits of reusing oil to produce fuel as an alternative to fossil fuels and awareness-raising projects for trade associations and consumer and environmental associations.

Biorefineries: green transformation projects

Eni has launched a zero-impact industry transformation programs with the conversion of the Venice and Gela Biorefineries.
