  • Dual Flag

With the “dual flag” approach, Eni aims to cooperate with host countries in order to seize new opportunities for economic and social development in an increasingly complex global environment. Listening and involving local communities are key prerequisites for sustainability and building mutual value. Thanks to this model, which is rooted in the formula developed by Enrico Mattei, and has become known as the “Mattei Formula”, the partnership focuses not only on the economic value of the resources of producer countries, but also on concrete support for sustainable development, particularly on the energy front: a distinctive feature that enables us to establish a mutually beneficial relationship and build mutual respect.

  • Green River Project

The Green River Project is an integrated development programme for farming and livestock in the Niger Delta. The programme aims to improve the livelihoods of Niger Delta communities and pursue food security, increasing food availability, generating employment and improving access to social services.

  • Collaboration Agreement with FAO

Eni and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have signed in february 2018 a Collaboration Agreement to foster access to safe and clean water in Nigeria. The project aims to contribute to the humanitarian interventions for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities, suffering from the North East - Lake Chad crisis, which have led to unprecedented levels of population displacements and prolonged disruption of agricultural, livestock and fishing activities. Within this project, FAO will provide support in identifying the areas of intervention for the wells as well as technical expertise and know-how in the targeted areas, whereas Eni will drill the boreholes and provide them with photovoltaic power systems, including training for their use and maintenance for long term sustainability.

  • Memorandum of understanding between Eni and UNDP

At the United Nations General Assembly on 24 September 2018, Eni signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the aim of achieving its Sustainable Development Goals – and particularly its target for providing access to energy by 2030, actions to combat climate change and the protection, cleaning up and sustainable use of the global ecosystem. The partnership, which involves no financial commitments, is focused on the African continent, initially involving the countries in which we operate, such as Angola, the Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Mozambique and Nigeria. The commitment from the UNDP focuses on accelerating the positive impact of our company’s initiatives, including improving the regulatory framework, transferring technical skills, providing support for access to guarantee funds for investment in renewables and monitoring/certifying activities.
