Boosted by outstanding results, we plan to grow

Even the chemistry sector is party to the reorganisation process and has reported its best performance in 20 years. It has achieved this by means of greater efficiency, the movement towards green chemistry, development of the business by forming strategic alliances at international level and the integration of the portfolio with higher added-value products. In completing the transformation process, we will continue to invest both in the development of a product portfolio offering greater added value and in international projects – participating in the specific dynamics of the chemistry industry. In February 2018 Versils signed a strategic partnership agreement with Bridgestone to develop a technology platform to commercialize guayule in the agronomic, sustainable-rubber and renewable-chemical sectors. In 2017 the new plants of Lotte Versalis Elastomers, a 50:50 joint venture between Versalis and Lotte Chemical, a major petrochemical company headquartered in South Korea, have been built in a record time of 26 months and in conformity with sustainability principles.

A product portfolio in line with the demands of the market

• Our offer: Versalis offers a broad portfolio of products, starting from base chemistry up to polyethylene, styrene polymers and elastomers.
• All applications: much of the stuff that surrounds us derives from polymers – from industrial packaging and food containers to toys, car components, electrical cabling and sports equipment.
• Innovation and research: a strong commitment to R&D has allowed us to respond to an increasingly global and demanding market in terms of performance and sustainability.
• Green chemistry: for Versalis this represents a business opportunity with incredible potential for growth, over and above that offered by traditional chemistry. Green chemistry is now one of the mainstays of our strategy and we are determined to become the key player.

Main projects

Porto Marghera
This strategic site is home to both traditional chemistry and a vast research hub that will look into renewables. The latter is being developed in partnership with Elevance Renewable Sciences of America.

Priolo
We have just finished streamlining the production set-up, bringing the plant's efficiency to European standards. The site is part of a new project aimed at producing hydrocarbon resins for specialist applications – among them adhesives, inks, varnishes and rubber.

Ferrara
In Ferrara we are upgrading the system for manufacturing synthetic rubber with the installation of a new production line, while also making improvements to existing plants. Our business offer will include added-value products for applications in the automotive and building sectors and for cables and specialist materials.
