We are operating in 67 countries to build a low-carbon future in which everyone has efficient and sustainable access to energy resources.
Long-term growth, transformation, evolution: producing and distributing energy is in our blood, so we've a solid base to build on.
Eni is active in 43 countries in the Upstream sector, an area that includes the exploration, development and extraction of oil and natural gas. The results for 2018 were excellent in terms of both the optimisation of the existent portfolio and its development for the future. By applying our distinctive technologies, we achieved exploration success in Italy, but also in Algeria, Angola, the Congo, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ghana, Libya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Kazakhstan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Our successful exploration enabled, among other things, early monetisation of discoveries, optimisation of time-to-market and hydrocarbon reserves, more efficient operations and a reduced break-even point. By applying technologies, competences and know-how, Eni not only optimised the existent portfolio, but also implemented a strategy for geographic diversification and for a portfolio with greater balance along the value chain. This was made possible through heavy expansion in the Middle East, where in a matter of months we built a hub par excellence for Upstream activity and acquired refining capacity with great potential through our strategic joint venture with ADNOC, the Abu Dhabi state oil company. In 2018, we were declared the best exploratory company in the industry for the fourth consecutive year. We reached a record production level of 1.85 million boe/d and lowered the cash neutrality for funding capex to 52 $/bbl.

In our activities, we are pursuing a path that will ensure the gradual and economically sustainable replacement of high-carbon sources with cleaner alternatives, through clearly defined policies that apply globally and attract investment. We focus on what we do best, bringing our skills and know-how to the transition towards low-carbon sources (renewable energy and natural gas). We have set up projects to produce energy from renewable sources in Italy and in the countries where we operate. As part of Progetto Italia, we launched numerous photovoltaic plants, including the 1 MW Green Data Center plant in Ferrera Erbognone, the 1 MW Gela plant in the Isola 10 area, and the 26 MW Assemini plant in September 2018 . In December 2018, we began operations at the pilot Waste-to-Fuel plant within the Gela Refinery using technology developed and patented by Eni to transform organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) into bio-oil for use as marine bunker fuel or for bio-diesel production. Agreements were signed for the development of new projects abroad to produce renewable energy mainly from photovoltaics in Australia, Algeria, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tunisia and Ghana.
