Record-breaking activities: where others see problems, we see opportunities

Eni has Upstream operations (the exploration, development and extraction of oil and natural gas) in 46 different countries. In 2017, Eni confirmed its leading position for exploration in the industry with the discovery of 1 billion boe of equity resources, predominantly in Egypt, with a unit cost of approximately $1/boe. With the application of our distinctive technologies we have achieved extraordinary success in record time: in Angola (with the West Hub and East Hub), in the Republic of Congo (with the Nené Marine field), in Egypt (the Zohr and Nooros projects), in Ghana (OCTP) and in Indonesia (the Jangkrik project). The skills and commitment of our people have made us best in class in exploration, reservoir modelling, drilling and development and allows us to seize opportunities where others see only difficulties.

Integration along the entire value chain

As a result of exploration, we have developed assets for our upstream business. We have reduced risk, saving time between product creation and sale (time-to-market). We have invested heavily in proprietary technologies, licences and instruments for exploration, reservoir surveys and geophysics reports. We have reorganised the entire Mid-downstream business: Gas & Power Midstream, Gas Retail, Refining & Marketing and chemicals. We are a company that seeks to integrate on all levels: for example, our new Midstream will increasingly exert leverage on our gas and liquefied natural gas production thanks to the incredible amount of resources we have found.

Energy transition: towards an energy mix with a lower carbon intensity

We work in 73 countries to build a future in which everyone can have access to energy in an efficient and sustainable manner. To a world that demands more and more energy we are responding with a mix of natural gas and renewables. In our activities we are pursuing a path that will ensure the gradual and economically sustainable replacement of high-carbon sources with cleaner alternatives, through clearly defined policies that apply globally and able to attract investment. We will focus on what we do bets, bringing our skills and know-how to the transition towards low-carbon sources (renewable energy and natural gas). We have defined projects for the production of energy from renewable sources in Italy and in the countries in which we operate. The objective of “Progetto Italia” is the realisation of initiatives in the renewable sector (energy production for predominantly internal use) using industrial areas owned by the company for a total forecasted capacity of approximately 220 MWP. Outside of Italy, we have signed agreements for the development of new projects for the production of renewable energy from mainly photovoltaics in Algeria, Tunisia and Ghana.
