On 21 November 2017, Eni’s Chief Upstream Officer Antonio Vella, along with a delegation of senior mangers from the company, took part in the closing ceremony of the first in-service training course for local teachers, organised by Eni Iraq, in the context of the Education Programme 2017-2022.
The ceremony was held at the Janet School in Aburjazia, built by Eni and opened in 2016. Also present were the top management of the Basra Oil Company (BOC), representatives of local authorities, from the deputy governor for Social Affairs, the chairman of the Oil & Gas commission and the Superintendent of Education of Bassora. The delegations visited the school and met with pupils and teachers. The ceremony concluded with the awarding of diplomas to local teachers, from the primary schools in Zubair, that had completed the in-service training course at the Eni Iraq Training Centre.
The course is part of the Education Programme, signed by Eni with the Iraqi Primo Minister on 31 January 2017. Further expanded in agreement with the local Government of Bassora in July 2017, the programme foresees: the restructuring and completion of 77 schools, professional training and teacher-training. The latter aims at improving the standard of teaching in primary and secondary schools with the use of innovative teaching materials and the in-service training of teachers.
Eni Iraq and the authorities present, reaffirmed their commitment to cooperating to ensure quality education for the young people of the area, in safe, functional, efficient and comfortable buildings.
