On March the 16th, 2017 Eni East Africa S.p.A. (EEA), organized in Maputo the first workshop with local civil society aimed at introducing the company activities in the Country and establishing a mechanism of continuous dialogue and interaction.
Civil society’s organizations, one of the key stakeholder category, attended the meeting with 18 members from three main thematic platforms:
The debate focused mainly on potential impacts of the off-shore (Coral South FLNG), on-shore (Mamba) projects. The main topics discussed were the following:
As a way forward, the parties agree in the establishment of a formal mechanism for
continuous engagement and communication with meetings to be held on a quarterly basis
and dedicated sessions on an call basis according to the areas of interest and expertise
of the different NGOs.
The realization of this first workshop was warmly welcomed by the civil society, emphasizing the quality of information received and particularly the openness and clear explanations provided by EEA during the debate.
