Eni and Teach for Ghana: expanding educational opportunity to all children in Ghana.
In order to contribute to the improvement of educational standards at Sanzule/Krisan, Eikwe and Old Bakanta schools, in Ghana’s Western Region, Eni Ghana and the host communities have defined a set of activities that include the construction of new facilities, the provision of teaching aids and programs to improve quality of teaching.
Eni and Teach for Ghana together to expand educational opportunities to all children in Ghana, for a total of 1,366 pupils and 24 teachers.
This latter program is developed with Teach for Ghana, a non-governmental organization that aims at expanding educational opportunities to all children in Ghana, and will benefit all the public schools in the area, for a total of 1,366 pupils and 24 teachers. Teach For Ghana recruits and trains outstanding recent university graduates and young professionals from varied disciplines to teach in Ghana’s underserved communities through a highly selective, two-year fellowship.
In partnership with Eni, Teach For Ghana has selected eight graduates in the sciences, arts, engineering and other diverse areas of discipline including literacy and numeracy and has started the initial one and a half-month training course, where fellows get solid basis in teaching skills (both general and subject based), school and classroom leadership and professional conduct. After this training, the fellows will move from Accra to the Western Region, in time for School start, in order to work side by side with the teachers of Old and New Bakanta, Sanzule/Krisan and Eikwe. They will share their specialized knowledge with modern, engaging teaching techniques, and help boost skills, capabilities and commitment of teachers and pupils alike.
The initiative forms part of the Quick Impact Projects that Eni Ghana, in partnership with Vitol and GNPC and in its capacity of operator of the OCTP project, developed with the communities that live near OCTP’s Onshore Receiving Facility.
