Dr. Ugwoke, a young talent from Africa, studies off-grid renewable energy systems in Nigeria.
Category: Debut in Research: Young Talents from Africa
The research titled “A Study on Energy Efficiency of Off-Grid Renewable Energy Systems in Nigeria” was proposed by Miss Blessing Onyeche Ugwoke. This research aims to identifying ways of enhancing energy efficiency as it relates to off-grid renewable energy systems. To achieve this, a critical study relating to off-grid renewable energy systems would be carried out, methodological challenges with respect to energy efficiency would be identified and improvements proposed. Furthermore, successful policies working in other nations would be highlighted to serve as a bench mark for its adaptability in Nigeria. Also, detailed analysis of the current status of off grid renewable energy systems in Nigeria would be carried out to provide a well-documented overview of the country’s off grid operations and the accompanying diverse market that hasn’t been exploited due to the limited information on off-grid energy systems in the country.
Launched in 2007 to recognise the best studies on efficiency, sustainability and environmental protection, the annual Eni Award is an international prize for applied research in the field of energy. Every year the competition involves many of the most important scientific institutions in the world as well as Eni's own in-house laboratories. The 2017 edition marks the 10th anniversary of the Eni Award, with important innovations regarding the competition's subject areas and the establishment of a new category. Called Debut in Research: Young Talents from Africa, this will be reserved for graduates of African universities.
