Be Digital, Go Digital.
Be Digital, Go Digital.
Digital transformation has been a reality at Eni for years, but we're now in a period of rapid acceleration, with the production units at the heart of development in our business taking centre stage. But innovative digital solutions are being developed for Eni's core structures as well. Today, digital transformation is a driver of our model for sustainable growth. Digitalisation improves staff safety, simplifies operational management, protects assets and makes the most of our skills. It increases flexibility, speed in decision-making, the ability to predict events, and the transparency and traceability of our operations. What are the crucial ingredients for putting it into practice? The courage to change, openness to new things, and the knowledge and experience of our people, who are always at the centre of our digital transformation.
Luigi Lusuriello, Eni’s Chief Digital Officer
Eni is investing significantly in digital technologies, not only to be more efficient, successful and innovative, but also to combine technological progress with our digital skills. Eni's digital transformation is possible because of the way our people and technology combine to achieve extraordinary results.
Our Digital Business Unit was created to define Eni’s digital strategy and carry out transformation by introducing digital initiatives throughout the company and promoting continuous innovation. We have also launched a training program in collaboration with Eni Corporate University, to attract the best digital talent and ensure their technical and managerial skills continue to grow.
With the new HPC4 supercomputer, we quadruple our computing power and make it one of the world’s most powerful industrial systems.
At the Green Data Center in Ferrera Erbognone, you will find Eni’s HPC4 – the most powerful computer in Europe for industrial production. One of its key functions is analysing geophysical subsoil data to help maintain our success in exploration. Digitization in Eni is also sustainable. The Green Data Center was developed to the highest levels of energy efficiency: the centre is powered by a photovoltaic system that draws energy from renewable sources.
Eni’s intense digital transformation means we are welcoming new talent and developing cutting-edge projects. We recently held a contest for launching new digital projects through the CallForGrowth project, an initiative developed in partnership with growITup, the open innovation platform that supports collaboration between large companies and start-ups. The initiative selected three start-ups that will support Eni to continue to improve our results in terms of safety, asset integrity, environment and operational efficiency.
“Digital transformation is a virtuous circle. People improve technology and technology improves people's performance,” explains Luigi Lusuriello. That is why the range of jobs at Eni is undergoing radical change, to include more and more roles relating to digital transformation, like Big Data Solution Architects.
Big Data Solution Architects manage data, anticipate risks, perform simulations and oversee plants remotely. This is happening right now, not in the future. It's just part of the work that Big Data Solution Architects do to provide architectural solutions to the demands of our company's businesses.
