Refining and supply – from crude oil to the final product
Refining and supply – from crude oil to the final product
Eni Deutschland holds shares in BAYERNOIL Raffineriegesellschaft mbH ( www.bayernoil.de) in Neustadt/Vohburg (20%) and PCK Raffinerie GmbH ( www.pck.de) in Schwedt (8.3%), which enables the company to process over 3 million tons of crude oil per year.
A forward-looking investment policy has permitted both refineries to implement modern plant configurations that guarantee an optimum supply of Eni Deutschland’s distribution networks with a wide range of high-quality mineral oil products, from fuels and heating oil through bitumen and LPG, to essential raw materials for the chemical industry.
The two refinery sites have an independent supply of crude oil. The crude oil for BAYERNOIL is transported by ship through the Mediterranean to the port of Trieste and continues its journey via the Transalpine Pipeline (www.tal-oil.com) over the Alps to Bavaria.
PCK’s crude oil however is mainly supplied from Russia via the “Friendship Pipeline” (Druzhba); the refinery can also receive supplies via a pipeline from the Baltic Sea port of Rostock.
The fuels and combustibles are transported from the refineries to the Agip service stations and the wholesale sector either directly by road tanker or indirectly via intermediate storages by rail tank wagons and inland tankers (also known as barges). Supplies of raw materials and semi-finished products for the production of synthetics in the chemical industry are also transported by rail.
As the demand from service stations and major clients cannot be entirely satisfied locally through their own refinery production, the logistics are further optimised through the reciprocal supply and joint storage of products from the oil companies. This generates substantial reductions in terms of transport traffic, storage space and the associated costs, noise and emissions. This is only possible because the basic quality of gasoline, diesel and heating oil is essentially standardised by the relevant legislation and a comprehensive quality assurance system ensures compliance with the requirements of the various standards. The optimised combination of production, supply and logistics represents a highly efficient and safe supply system for mineral oil products.
Eni Deutschland is represented at the Frankfurt and Berlin airports as a shareholder of the joint ventures Hydrantenbetriebsgesellschaft oHg, BFS Berlin Fuelling Services GbR and Tanklager-Gesellschaft Tegel GbR. The production, storage and logistics of aviation turbine fuel is subject to specific quality requirements defined by the Joint Inspection Group (JIG), and compliance with such is constantly monitored in refineries, tank farms and airports. Eni SpA is long-standing member of the JIG and is represented on its council. Airports are supplied in accordance with the technical specifications via road tankers, rail tank wagons, barges and pipelines.
