The technology known as organic photovoltaic is studied in these laboratories. This is a new generation of photovoltaic technology that uses semiconductor polymers, therefore plastics, instead of silicon as an active photo material. We test new materials and new architecture for small-scale devices in these laboratories. Among the potential advantages of this technology is the use of low quantities of materials, because this is the nanotechnology field, and the possibility to create lightweight flexible devices on substrates like films and plastic films.
