Energy Superfacts: Clean Sand

Italy has 7500 kilometres of beaches, not all of them are immaculate. Why? When we are on the beach we produce an incalculable amount of waste. Every kind of waste is found on the seashore: plastic, cigarette butts, cotton buds, fishing lines and nets, paraffin and food containers. Depending on the type of waste, the time needed to biodegrade varies. Sometimes it takes decades or even centuries for it to decompose. Some examples Aluminium cans take 250 years, nappies 500 years and plastic bags take 1000 years. By separating and recycling your waste you can ensure it doesn’t end up on the beach. Some beaches now prohibit the use of plastic and you should follow this rule.
