Eni is investing in the promotion of the improvement of the quality of education in Angola, through the implementation of three social projects, in the provinces of Luanda, Huila, Namibe and Cabinda.
Reading is fun
Starting from 2016, an annual project of promotion of education is being executed in 1st cycle public schools in the province of Luanda, with the objective of raising the reading habits of students: under the framework of 3 Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) that were signed so far with the Provincial Cabinet of Education of Luanda, a total of over 8,500 didactic books have been delivered to 25 public schools, to benefit over 41,000 students. Starting from 2019, with the 4th phase of this project, for which a MoU will be signed, not only didactic books will be provided but also school desks.
Integrated Social Project in the southern provinces of Huila and Namibe
In the southern provinces of Huila and Namibe, under the framework of a MoU that was signed between Eni Angola and the Ministry of Energy & Water and the Ministry of Health in 2017, an integrated social project is being implemented, that has the objective of promoting the improvement of the living conditions of nine communities affected by the drought. To reach the project’s objective, solar systems and water systems are being installed to provide energy and water to the communities, including schools and health centers; the project is also targeting the promotion of health and of the farming activity. The social awareness component of the integrated social project includes a school program with over 20 schools involved. As a result of the electricity from the solar systems that is now available at schools, evening literacy was launched: over 170 students have been inserted so far.
Social Project of Rehabilitation of the Beira Nova School in Cabinda
In the northern province of Cabinda, where Eni Angola recently acquired the Operatorship of onshore Block Cabinda North, a social project that consists of the rehabilitation of a school is taking place, for which a MoU was signed between Eni Angola and the Administration of the Municipality of Cacongo. The school is being fully rehabilitated and will be fully equipped so that approximately 300 students will have education conditions of quality.
