How our collaborations make a positive impact on the planet.
Public-private partnerships are an opportunity to increase the role companies play in developing a sustainable world. This is a strategic objective that Eni is confident about and we form collaborations that help us reach our goals on this front quickly. There are many partnership initiatives that promote development and access to energy. In this context, it is important to confirm our active role in the world's largest corporate sustainability initiatives, realised by the Global Compact LEAD. The joint declaration we have signed with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a crucial further step towards our reaching the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. This cooperation is based on areas of common interest, from youth unemployment to the agricultural value chain, renewable energy to energy efficiency, particularly in Africa. It is the start of a pioneering model of public-private cooperation, which will contribute to the development of the communities and countries we work in.
We are part of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), started in 2014 and led by the CEOs of major oil and gas companies, to fight climate change with concrete initiatives and investment in low-carbon technologies. Today, OGCI's 13 members represent around 30% of world production of oil and gas and provide almost 20% of the global consumption of primary energy.
In September 2019, Eni confirmed its participation in the LEAD Global Compact, demonstrating its continued commitment to the UN's principles of responsible business. During the UN Global Compact Leaders Week, Eni was recognized as one of the most active participants in the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative. The Global Compact invites companies to bring their actions and strategies in line with ten principles of human rights, work, the environment and fighting corruption, and to work to reach the Sustainable Development Goals.
The declaration by Eni and UNIDO was signed by Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, and Li Yong, Director-General of UNIDO. This is a strategic cooperation that will lead to concrete business interaction. It is an example of public-private cooperation for sustainable industrialisation in Africa.

At the UN General Assembly on 24 September 2018, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to help us reach the Sustainable Development Goals, especially in terms of access to energy, by 2030.
The Corporate Human Rights Benchmark (CHRB) has provided further recognition of Eni's commitment to sustainability. Eni, the only energy company among the six companies chosen, was included in the upcoming CHRB report on how to learn from similar companies ("Learning from Peers"), to highlight potential approaches for more effective human rights management. Similarly, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) analysis of sustainability reports published by some 200 companies worldwide ranked the subsidiary Eni For among the top ten reports in its ranking.
