ESG indices and ratings 2019

Eni is participating in the main financial markets indicators evaluating the Environmental, Social, Governance performance.

ESG indices are stock market indices developed by index providers and composed by listed companies that select the best corporations by performance on environmental, social and governance factors.

ESG ratings represent unsolicited assessments of independent agencies and are consistent with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations in 2015.

ESG Indices and ratings are currently used for the creation of financial products.

In Sustainalytics’ last update as of September 2020, Eni has achieved a ESG Risk Rating score of 25.7, ranking in the top 3% amongst its peers in the Energy Sector.

Sustainalytics’ ESG Risk Ratings framework addresses a broad range of ESG issues and trends key to the industry and company. Sustainalytics is a leading independent ESG and corporate governance research, ratings and analytics firm that supports investors with the development and implementation of responsible investment strategies.

In August 2020, Eni was confirmed by MSCI in the "A" ESG rating (AAA - CCC scale).

MSCI ESG Research provides MSCI ESG Ratings on global public and a few private companies on a scale of AAA (leader) to CCC (laggard), according to exposure to industry-specific ESG risks and the ability to manage those risks relative to peers. Learn more about MSCI ESG ratings.

In 2020 Eni has obtained the overall score 65/100, being consequently inserted in the “advanced” band, the highest of the Vigeo Eiris assessment framework, confirming its leadership role in ESG ratings. Vigeo Eiris is a global leader in ESG assessments, data, research, benchmarks and analytics.

Eni confirmed its leadership position in 2019 in tackling climate change for the third consecutive year by obtaining the A- rating in the independent assessment of the CDP Climate Change questionnaire in which Eni has participated since 2003.

With its A-score, Eni was also one of only three Oil & Gas companies recognised as a leader in water management in the CDP2019 Water Security assessment.

Around 8,500 companies representing more than 50% of the world capitalization were invited to complete the CDP2019 questionnaires, including 250 from the Oil & Gas sector.

CDP is a non-profit organization internationally recognized as one of the leading institutions in assessing, both, climate and environmental performance and strategy of listed companies.

In 2019, CDP represented over 500 international investors with a combined capital of almost $100 trillion.
