ESG indices and ratings 2019

Eni is participating in the main financial markets indicators evaluating the Environmental, Social, Governance performance.

Sustainability ESG indices are stock market indices developed by index providers and composed by listed companies that group the best corporations by performance on environmental, social and governance factors (Environmental, Social and Governance ESG).

ESG ratings represent unsolicited assessments of independent agencies and are consistent with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations in 2015.

ESG Indices and ratings are currently used for the creation of financial products.

In November 2019, Eni was assigned by MSCI the "A" ESG rating (AAA - CCC scale).

The MSCI ESG rating assesses a company's relative ability to manage its industry-specific ESG risks, including climate risks. MSCI is a global provider of ESG indices and research for the asset management industry.

MSCI ESG Ratings

Eni confirmed its leadership position in 2019 in tackling climate change for the third consecutive year by obtaining the A- rating in the independent assessment of the CDP Climate Change questionnaire in which Eni has participated since 2003.

With its A-score, Eni was also one of only three Oil & Gas companies recognised as a leader in water management in the CDP2019 Water Security assessment.

Around 8,500 companies representing more than 50% of the world capitalization were invited to complete the CDP2019 questionnaires, including 250 from the Oil & Gas sector.

CDP is a non-profit organization internationally recognized as one of the leading institutions in assessing, both, climate and environmental performance and strategy of listed companies.

In 2019, CDP represented over 500 international investors with a combined capital of almost $100 trillion.

Transition Pathway Initiative TPI

Transition Pathway Initiative, another initiative to enhance transparency on climate actions towards energy transition supported by institutional investors, confirmed Eni amongst the leaders in the Oil & Gas industry for the third year in a row, due to the quality of governance, strategy and risk management in climate-related matters.

For the thirteenth consecutive year, Eni was confirmed in the FTSE4Good Developed stock market index after the December 2019 review.

Created by global index provider FTSE Russell, the FTSE4Good Index measures the environmental, social and governance performance of companies (ESGs). The FTSE4Good indices are used by a wide range of financial operators to develop and evaluate financial products focused on sustainable investments.

In Sustainalytics ESG Rating 2019, Eni outperformed the Energy sector reaching the score of 80/100 (95th percentile on 118 companies evaluated).

Sustainalytics’ ESG Ratings framework addresses a broad range of ESG issues and trends key to the industry and company.
