Our work in Pakistan

We have been in Pakistan since 2000 in the Exploration & Production and Global Gas & LNG and Renewables sectors, but our local development support in the country began in the 1970s.

Field management

Exploration and production in the country is governed by concession contracts for onshore work and a production sharing agreement for offshore. The main permits our company works in are Bhit/Badhra (40%) and Kadanwari (18.42%). We also have shared in the permits Latif (33.3%), Zamzama (17.75%) and Sawan (23.7%). Development in 2019 included drilling new wells in producing fields to optimise production, improving existing onshore facilities and rigless operations to combat a decline in production. At the end of 2019 we have opened a solar plant with 10 MW to support production facilities in the field in Bhit.

In March 2021 we reached an agreement to sell our shares in our entities in Pakistan to Prime International Oil & Gas Company, a newly established company formed by former Eni’s local employees team and Hub Power Company Ltd, the largest Independent Pakistani Power Producer. In particular, the agreement provides the disposal of the Bhit/Badhra (Eni’s interest 40%) and Kadanwari (Eni’s interest 18.42%) operated fields, as well as the partecipating interest in the Latif (Eni’s interest 33.3%), Zamzama (Eni’s interest 17.75%) and Sawan (Eni’s interest 23.7%) fields.

Gas extraction in the country

Natural gas production in the country in 2018 equalled 3 million m3 a day. After winning an international tender in 2017 we began supplying liquefied natural gas in Pakistan. We will provide the Pakistani national LNG company with a load every month for 15 years, for a total of more than 11 million tonnes of LNG in 180 loads.

We create energy

In Pakistan we opened a photovoltaic plant with 10 MW. We have also signed up to the "Clean Beach" initiative, for cleaning coasts, for which we picked up 350 kg of plastic. We also planted 2,200 mangroves in Shah Bandar in 2019, to protect the coastal ecosystem.

Energy in Bhit

The photovoltaic plant, of which we are an operator with 40%, opened in 2019 and will produce about 20 GWh per year. This energy will be used directly at the industrial site, thus reducing gas consumption and preventing more than 144,000 tonnes of CO₂ from being released into the atmosphere.

Access to water

Between 2013 and 2016 we helped build wells and water plants in the country, improving the quality of life for the population living in the regions of Bhit, Badhra and Kadanwari. Over three years we produced several infrastructures for domestic and agricultural use. We supplied the local community with solar-powered pumping systems, hand pumps and several reverse osmosis plants.
