Mother and child healthcare-nutritional project in Luanda, Angola
Eni Foundation is carrying out a project aimed at improving the health conditions of mothers and children in the metropolitan area of the capital, Luanda, where, as a result of the civil war, live over nine million people, in a country that has among the worst health indicators in sub-Saharan Africa.
The project is being developed with the Angolan Ministry of Health and the local NGO Obra da Divina Providencia, whose Pediatric hospital in Luanda has become, over the years, an important point of reference for the city’s population.
The initiative is part of the socio-economic development and child protection strategy agreed last year between the Angolan Government and Unicef, which is based on the integration of infant and maternal health protection and promotion services, with a particular focus on the primary healthcare system.
The project, which will last 2 years, is centered on the Municipality of Kilamba Kiaxi and is aimed at reducing the incidence of preventable diseases and of those caused by malnutrition, by strengthening the existing primary healthcare facilities, monitoring the most widespread pathologies and setting up immunization and nutrition education programs.
