Paolo Scaroni became CEO of Eni, one of the most important integrated oil companies in the world in June 2005.

Paolo Scaroni obtained an economics degree from Milan's Bocconi University in 1969 and an MBA from Columbia Business School in 1973.

For a year following business school, he was an associate at McKinsey & Company.


From 1973 until 1985, he held a series of positions with Saint Gobain, culminating with his appointment as President of the Saint Gobain flat glass division.


In 1985, Paolo Scaroni became CEO of Techint.  During his time at Techint, he was also Vice President of Falck and executive Vice President of SIV, a joint venture between Techint and Pilkington plc.

He joined Pilkington in 1996 and was CEO until May 2002.


From May 2002 to May 2005 he was CEO of Enel, Italy's leading electricity utility.

Paolo Scaroni is a member of the Board of Assicurazioni Generali, of LSEG plc (London Stock Exchange Group), of Veolia Environnement (Paris), of the Board of Overseers of Columbia Business School (New York) and of the Board of Fondazione Teatro alla Scala.

In May 2004 he was nominated Cavaliere del Lavoro, in recognition of his professional contribution.

In November 2007 he was made a member of the prestigious Légion d'honneur of France.
