Roberto Poli has been the chairman of Eni for almost seven years. • From Enel to Ikea, the Italy that is hiring
    by Nicoletta Picchio
    Il Sole 24Ore, 1 February 2009

It's not all cuts. While it is true that the forecasts are negative, the unemployment rate could rise to more than 8%, raising the number of unemployed in Italy to two million, there are those who are bucking the trend, growing and, above all, hiring, helping to absorb the rising daily number of jobs at risk.
Individual success stories, led by the numbers of big Italian companies, but with small businesses also doing their bit, and, in some cases, carving out a leading role. Or entire sectors, such as the main contractor companies in engineering and plant building. Or even retail, from Ikea to Media World, reinforced by the growing importance of price-quality.

  • New technology for the Upper Adriatic
    Il Sole 24Ore, 9 January 2009

Claudio Scajola, the minister for economic development, said: if there is a crisis in natural gas, we need to be able to extract the gas that lies under the Gulf of Venice, "Sharing it with the territories, the minister underlined". And immediately there was a proposal by the Assomineraria, the association of raw materials extraction companies (in particular for oil and gas): with currently available technology, the gas can be extracted without any risk. "We need to try the more remote reservoirs," claims the association's chairman,, Claudio Descalzi.
