Involvement and Corporate Climate

The first corporate culture analysis was carried out in the first few months of 2008.

This involved about 38,000 Eni people throughout the world, and aimed to "take a snapshot" of how the company is perceived, right from top management down to entry-level staff while assessing their level of involvement.

The questionnaire was distributed between January and February 2008 and people were invited to complete it anonymously, on line or in paper form, in more than 250 Italian and foreign sites The return rate for Eni Secondo Te was 79%: this result was equivalent to the response level of "High Performing Companies" - companies in which corporate culture surveys are a wellestablished practice - higher than the average response rate in multinationals carrying out their first Survey.

People involved in Eni secondo teThe "Eni profile" that emerged from the corporate culture analysis is one in which the company's people have a good level of involvement, pride and loyalty, who feel protected and safeguarded in terms of tangible issues, particularly with regards to health, safety and training, and who share a system of strong values embodied in Eni's business culture, particularly regarding company integrity and a commitment to safeguarding the environment.

Eni's people appear to be quite happy with the relationships established with their managers; the latter are appreciated above all for their professional expertise.

Areas for improvement include a request for more comprehensive communication of the company objectives, a more motivational leadership style, a more stimulating work environment that is more open to innovative ideas and a greater appreciation of individual contributions.

In the last two years a number of initiatives have been launched in support of the Eni's personnel :

  • new staff restaurants in Rome, Milan and Turin
  • discount agreements with gyms in Rome and Milan
  • thematic trips for adolescents focused on sport and the study of English
  • summer camp experiments in Rome to provide support for families during the school holidays.

All of these initiatives are part of the Welfare Project which attempts to identify and develop better services to make it easier to combine one's professional and private life, a need that is particularly marked in large cities. Family and children, health, convenience and time saving are the areas that have been given priority in the project, identified also through a survey conducted within the company.

A particularly significant initiative is the "eni nursery school " which forsees the construction, in San Donato Milanese, of a pre-school structure for around 140 children up to the age of 6. The facility, which will open in September 2010, will be a structure of pedagogical and architectural excellence and provide an important support to the families of employees in San Donato Milanese.

Reaching one's place of work every day is a necessity of primary importance and has a big impact on the life quality of everyone.

As part of the "Mobility Management" project, which aims to create and promote services to encourage the adoption of sustainable movement, in September 2009 a Car Sharing scheme was introduced in Milan for employees working at the S.Donato Milanese offices.
Car sharing is an innovative system of transport that makes it possible to rent a car paying only for the effective use and eliminating the costs of running a car: maintenance, insurance, refuelling and parking. It is possible to choose from a range of cars available at various garages spread across Milan and at the main other Italian cities.
From their desk, using a dedicated section on the company intranet, employees can also:

  • check timetables and intercompany transport routes for the various work  locations
  • subscribe to Milan's bike sharing scheme (a service that provides citizens with bicycles owned and managed by the city council located at a number of stations across the city)
  • buy online annual public transport season tickets deducting the cost over twelve months from one's salary (this is currently only possible at the offices in San Donato Milanese, Rome and in the Piedmont region).

The Mobility Management project highlights Eni's continuing interest in the wellbeing of people and the environment, with a management approach to mobility aimed at reducing CO2 emissions.
