Industrial Relations and Labor Standards

Eni's industrial relations system is characterised by a consolidated relationship based on dialogue and exchange with workers' representatives, organised in a series of union agreements on three territorial levels:

  • at a national level an Industrial Relations Protocol is in place, signed in 2001 by the major union organisations;
  • at a European level the European Works Council (CAE) has been active since 1995 , the founding statute of which, renewed in 2001 and 2004, was extended for a further three years at the close of 2007
  • at an international level the " Industrial Relations at Transnational Level and Corporate Social Responsibility Agreement" , signed with the International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers Union (ICEM) and Italian unions, extends to a global level the dialogue with workers' representatives.

In December 2008 in Amsterdam the annual meeting of the European Works Council (CAE) took place, during which the new Code of Ethics was presented.

As is usual, the day before the meeting, the Health and Safety Observatory met to illustrate the principal actions taken in 2008 and outline the environmental policy initiatives started by Eni.

To mark the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights actions were also introduced to renew the agreement on Industrial Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility.

Finally, a study is underway for a research project on International Industrial Relations which, through an analysis of other large companies, not only in the energy sector, will allow Eni to identify eventual areas for improvement in the field of Industrial Relations and promote specific initiatives and projects to reinforce efficacy.
