Eni North Africa - Libyan Branch proudly presents its first Sustainability Report, 2008. The Report, made thanks to the joint efforts of all the Company’s departments, has been conceived as a strategic tool to communicate to relevant stakeholders Eni NA’s core activities and performance, as well as commitments for the sustainable development of the local community.
Eni’s presence in Libya dates back to 1959, when the Company was awarded exploration and production rights in Area 82, in the Sirt Desert. Since then Eni’s activities expanded significantly gaining a leading position in Libya; at present Eni North Africa, an ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certified Company, conducts exploration and production activities from the remote areas of Murzuq and Kufrah Basins to the western coastline of Libya, to the offshore installations of Bouri and Bahr Essalam fields.
Besides the industrial aspects, Eni North Africa has been implementing in the Country a wide social investment program, which was agreed upon in the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding, signed in 2006 with the Gaddafi Development Foundation with the sponsorship of the National Oil Corporation. Throughout 2008, several projects in different areas of health, education and training, cultural heritage and environment protection have been completed and others are currently under execution.
The Report briefly presents the 2008 Company performance and achievements with a special focus on community-oriented activities. It is tangible evidence of the commitments towards sustainability and of a long-term stakeholder engagement which will stimulate further dialogue and actions to achieve sustainable development in Libya.
