In addition, the Report celebrates the 50 years of Eni’s presence in Libya (1959 -2009): it was 1959, in fact, when the Company obtained first exploration rights in the Sirt Desert; since then, Eni’s activities expanded significantly and, at present, the Company conducts exploration and production activities from the remote areas of Murzuq and Kufrah Basins to the western coastline of Libya, to the offshore installations of Bouri and Bahr Essalam fields. Recently, Eni North Africa obtained ISO 14001 and OHSAS 14001 certifications.
Beside the industrial aspect, over the years has successfully developed durable partnerships and pro-active synergies with the local community. Today, the Company is more than ever committed to sustainability, as proved by its ambitious social investments program initiated in 2006, after the signature of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Gaddafi Development Foundation with the sponsorship of the Libyan National Oil Corporation.
Out of the Memorandum of Understanding experience, and in order to systematize and standardize the management of its social investment program, the Company has developed a public standard SIM 01: 2009 to contribute providing the private sector with guidelines and requirements for the management of Social Investment programs developed in the framework of Corporate Social Responsibility.
