Eni welcomes the endorsement of the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rightsby the United Nations Human Rights Council on June 16th, 2011. The principles, proposed by the UN Special Representative John Ruggie have been developed through a complex consultation process involving several stakeholders.
In order to further advance its integration process of human rights within the activities of the company, which began several years ago, last May eni established a Human Rights Working Group aimed at implementing J. Ruggie's Framework. Being human rights a cross cutting issue, the group involves the participation of people coming from the functions most directly impacted by human rights issues, namely Community Relations, HSE, Procurement, Security, Legal and Human Resources.
Through this latest initiative, we look forward to further increase our company's ability to integrate Human Rights perspective into internal processes and to contribute to the oil and gas industry's knowledge around the management of the related issues.
As a member of IPIECA, eni also participates in the joint efforts to raise awareness of human rights issues in the oil and gas industry by joining the IPIECA three-year initiative aimed at advancing collaborative learning on this topic.
