From April 26 to 28, the first part of ''Improving Hospital Governance in Libya'' project has been completed with the diplomas award ceremony for the 70 hospital managers who successfully passed the final tests of the first national training program in hospital governance. Representatives of the Libyan Ministries of Health, Planning and Finance and Social Affairs, local universities and hospitals, who have been actively involved in the project’s activities also attended the event.
During the closing conference, a framework agreement for cooperation in the areas of training and scientific research has been signed between the Libyan Board of Medical Specialties and the European Institute of Oncology (IEO), one among the institutions involved in the projects.
The training program – articulated into10 thematic workshops on hospital management and organization - represents the first component of the whole project. As final output , a Position Paper on Hospital Governance in Libya will be presented next June, prepared by a dedicated working group composed of representatives of the involved Libyan institutions, as well as by Italian and international specialists.
The project is promoted and coordinated by Eni North Africa in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding for Social Project signed in September 2006 with Gaddafi Development Foundation (GDF) and National Oil Corporation (NOC).
Cerismas, a research institute of the Italian University Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in the area of health care management, is implementing the project activities, with the participation of an excellence network composed of international university institutes, (University of Muenster, Centrum für Krankenhaus-Management), health private companies (Gemelli General Hospital, European Oncology Institute), multinationals (IBM, General Electric, Johnson & Johnson Medical, ItalTBS) and Italian public institutions (Ministero della Salute italiano)
