Eni in the Global Compact

Eni in the Global Compact

Eni, has been the first Italian company to join the initiative in 2001. Eni's commitment in implementing the ten principles of the Global Compact in its activities is demonstrated in several key areas. The UN Global Compact is a voluntary corporate citizenship initiative launched in July 2000 by the former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan.
Structured as a public-private partnership between the United Nations, the private sector, governments and civil society, the Global Compact aims to provide a policy framework for supporting sustainability principles and practices, combating corruption, safeguarding the environment, ensuring social inclusion, the promoting highest standards of moral and ethical conduct and acting as a catalyst in support of broader UN goals, including the Millennium Development Goals.
Businesses participating to the Global Compact commit themselves to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles, on the basis of the following international Declarations and Conventions:

  • The Universal Declaration of Human Rights
  • The International Labour Organization's Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work
  • The Rio Declaration on Environment and Development
  • The United Nations Convention Against Corruption
