Certifications

Programmed certification plans currently foresee that almost all of the management systems of the most significant operating units will be certified according to international ISO 14001 standards.
The main production units in Europe have already begun the process of EMAS registration, while numerous foreign subsidiaries, petrochemical plants and gas pipeline networks have obtained integrated certification with safety management systems (OHSAS 18001) or quality systems (ISO 9000) or both (certificates of excellence).
ISO 14001 certification comprise the majority (99, of which 40 with total coverage of the company and 59 for specific sites). There are 9 EMAS registrations, 62 OHSAS certifications, 21 ISM (regarding safety systems on naval vessels) and 82 of other types of certification (60 of which relating to ISO 9001).

In the E&P sector, 24 subsidiary or associated companies have obtained ISO 14001 certification, out of a total of 42, 57% of the target figure of 80%, due to the increase in the number of companies included. By 2013 certification is expected to be extended to all operating activities. In the R&M sector four out of five refineries have EMAS registration: the Gela refinery's EMAS registration is currently suspended pending an evaluation by the Regional Environmental Agency; in 2010 the EMAS registrations for the refineries included 5 crude oil and petroleum product deposits (Calenzano, Ortona, Pegli, Ferrera and Imperia) and validation was obtained for the Environmental Declaration for the extension of the EMAS certification for the deposits that are part of the north west HUB and the south west HUB.

In 2010 the petrochemical plants at Porto Torres, Dunkirk and Grangemouth all obtained Certificates of Excellence. In July 2010 also Eni Corporate obtained OHSAS 18001 certification to add to the previously obtained ISO 14001 certification.
