School Projects

Eni pays particular attention to the education sector. It has set up its School Project, an on-line teaching tool for lower junior school students that provides them with information and up-to-date news about subjects connected with energy and the environment.

The site www.eniscuola.it , which has been on line since 2001, contains a series of practical exercises that allow students to interactively check their understanding of the information they have been presented with.

Since 1999/2000,  Eni has been involved in promoting initiatives with secondary schools in Basilicata, in the regions where oil operations are carried out ( www.schoolnet.eni.it ).

In school year 2007-2008, secondary schools in Norway, Australia and Alaska took part in a project to study their own cultural, historical and environmental diversity, with the aim of promoting an understanding and dialogue between different communities. An international prize was awarded to an Australian school for indigenous students in Wadeye (Northern Territory, Darwin) during an award ceremony held on 6 June 2008.

The initiative was repeated for school year 2008-2009, with the aim of studying a new subject: "Jobs of the past and jobs of tomorrow".

The topic was proposed to Secondary schools from Val d'Agri and Val Basento in the Basilicata region, and other places of the world where Eni operates: Finnmark - Norway, Northern Territory - Australia, Alaska - United StatesAlgeria and Timor-Leste

For the school year 2009-2010 the initiative is taking into consideration the topic :  “Communication: from oral traditional tale to virtual communication‘. Besides schools from Basilicata, also schools from Finnmark - Norway, Northern Territory - Australia, Alaska - United States, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Pakistan and Angola are participating in the initiative.

In 2009 the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei and the provincial public education council signed an agreement for the launch of the Energy school project, a pilot initiative that will involve a number of high schools in the Val D'agri in practical activities aimed at building an awareness of good energy practices that can result in savings in the cost of electricity and natural gas. Savings that the Provincial Council will use to invest in technological infrastructure for plants for the reduction of CO2 emissions at the schools involved in the project

In India Eni supported a ”Children’s Education Program’ in co-operation with the University of Jammu, the Maghreb Petroleum Research Group, the University College London. The project aimed at increasing the students’ knowledge on activities in the field of oil&gas and at promoting awareness with respect to the use of energy of for themselves and their families. During 2008 – 09, events were held in Srinagar Kashmir, Jammu, Ladakh, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer thus covering the entire states of Rajasthan and of Jammu & Kashmir with this innovative and high profile educational campaign.

The program included interactive workshops, the distribution of teaching materials and publications on Petroleum Geology, Energy Efficiency and Global Warming. A series of lectures was given on the topics of Petroleum Systems, the search for oil&gas, climate change and energy efficiency. A questionnaire was distributed among the students, who resulted very aware of the environmental concerns and the role they can play in managing the environment.

Furthermore in conjunction with the campaign, Eni co-sponsored an international conference on the “Geology and Hydrocarbon Potential of Neoproterozoic-Cambrian Basins‘ in India, Pakistan and the Middle East‘ in February 2008.
In March 2009, Eni received two prizes sponsored by Getenergy (a facilitation in training and education firm in the O&G sector) for the implementation of the Children's Education Program as well as for its contribution to research and teaching at the University of Jammu.
