During the production of heavy oil bases, petrolates are separated from lubricating oils by cooling and filtration using rotating filters in a methylethylcetone toluene plant.
These are used in formulas for rust protection of metal materials and in the timber industry.
During the production of parafin base oils, aromatic extracts are separated from semi-finished lubricant oils in a furfural plant, a solvent used for their extraction.
The principal use is as a plastifier in the rubber industry in the production of tyres and other items.
