Under the agreement, Eni and the Minister of Foreign Affairs will allocate 500,000 euros each for the next 2 years aimed at the realization of multipurpose sport facilities in the main cities of Iraq
Rome, 11 June, 2010 – The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Franco Frattini, the Iraqi Government spokesman with responsibility for Sport at the Prime Minister’s Office, Alì Al Dabbagh, and Eni CEO Paolo Scaroni, today signed a intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at the development of sport facilities and training of personnel in Iraq.
Under the agreement, Eni and the Minister of Foreign Affairs will allocate 500,000 euros each for the next 2 years aimed at the realization of multipurpose sport facilities in the main cities of Iraq. Moreover, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, the International Olympic Committee and CONI will be committed to the training of Iraqi sports officials, through the organization in Italy of training courses for managers, technicians, sport doctors, physiotherapists and animators.
Iraqi athletes involved in international competitions will be hosted by the different sport federations of Italy for training periods and intensive athletic preparation, so as to contribute to the improvement of the level of professional sport throughout Iraq.
The signing of the MoU took place in the presence of the Presidents of the main Iraqi football teams, Al Zaware and Al Khark, and the Chairman of Gulf Sands Petroleum, Madhi Sajjad.
Eni has been present in Iraq as operator of the Zubair field, one of the biggest oil fields in the Country, which will reach 1.2 million boe per day at full capacity.
Eni is a major player in the Middle East, where is present in research, exploration, construction and engineering.
