1st June 2007 is the date when REACH, the new Regulation for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals, has come into force. The new Regulation has replaced a number of European directives and regulations and had placed responsibility on the chemical industry to demonstrate the safety of its products.

Clients & suppliersThe regulations (CE) 1907/2006 "REACH", published on 30/12/2006, is a profound re-examination of the complex of European Union norms in the sector for the control of chemical substances for the protection of public health and the environment and, for the first time, attributes to industry responsibility for demonstrating the safety of its products.
Within the E&P Division specific responsibilities have been defined in order to implement the terms of the REACH Regulations, clearly included in the HSE Integrated Management System.
In the general context of the implementation of the REACH Regulations (CE) 1907/2006, one of the fundamental aspects concerns the exchange of information between producers and importers, as well as the users of chemical substances ("downstream users‘).The main communication tool within the supply chain is the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). The Material Safety Data Sheet describes the hazards of a product and explains how the product can be safely used, handled and stored.
